In the field of medical sales, there are massive opportunities. In 2018, the average medical sales professional salary was $149,544, with an average medical sales salary base of $92,698 and an average bonus of $63,318. Naturally, the field of medical sales has become competitive with individuals who are highly motivated and hard-working and there’s a direct correlation between compensation and tenure. This means that like anything else in life, the longer you work at it, the more rewarding it will be.

If you’re interested in medical sales, then there are a few things you should decide first. To begin, what kind of products do you want to be selling? That is, what do you want your specialty to be? In this field, you could be selling everything from medical devices and equipment to pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. It’s important to choose a set of products that you will be comfortable discussing. While a lot of medical sales is transactional, some sales can be more on a consultation basis, so a thorough product knowledge is important when learning how to sell to hospitals.

Once you’ve selected your product line, it’s time to get some field experience. As I said earlier, the field of medical sales is definitely an arena where experience can directly increase your value when negotiating with potential employers. However, this isn’t one of those Catch-22 situations where you need experience to get a job but first need a job to get experience. iRemedy takes sales reps on a 1099 basis, meaning they’re earning commission-based income while building connections and gaining experience. Medical sales can be complicated, so iRemedy provides its new team members with all the training that they’ll need to be as effective as possible in the field.
